Prevention and Periodontal treatment
Maintaining a proper oral hygiene routine – one which incorporates brushing and flossing twice daily – can go a long way towards keeping gum disease and other oral problems under control. Although the use of fluoridated toothpaste or mouth wash can kill bacteria and lessen the amount of plaque in your mouth, having a dental professional remove the plaque at least twice a year is the key to preventing gum diseases and improving your oral health.
A professional dental cleaning, done in our Dental Artz Clinic, is an effective way to remove plaque build-up that has hardened into tartar. The longer tartar stays on the teeth, the higher the risk of gum disease. By scheduling regular dental appointments, we will be able to detect the first sign of gum disease. Once gum disease is detected, it can be treated before it leads to a more serious condition.
If gum disease is more advanced, scaling and root planning may be performed to treat periodontal disease and gum infections. Through the use of ultrasonic scaling devices, we can remove plaque, tartar and food debris from below the gum line. We also use hand scales to make the tooth and root surface smoother and disease free.
Laser treatments can also be used to remove tartar deposits. If you have moderate to severe periodontitis, we may perform a gingival flap surgery to reduce periodontal pockets, as well as bone grafting to restore lost bone.
